Per 14 CFR 61.57(d), an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) is a focused refresher that helps you regain or maintain your instrument flying skills when you're out of currency.
During an IPC, you'll perform essential IFR tasks — instrument approaches, holds, navigation, and unusual attitudes — so you're confident, safe, and fully prepared to fly in the system again. It's a supportive, no-pressure way to get back to standard and enjoy the full privileges of instrument flight.
